Antoine Laurain is a French Author of The Red Notebook and The President’s Hat

The Red NotebookThe Red Notebook by Antoine Laurain is the book I chose for this month’s novel in our reading group. For the first time, everyone of the five members liked the choice. Often one or two of us don’t like the book of the month and during out discussions, we explain why. I am pleased because I thought this book was not only entertaining, but admirable in its style of writing, flow, characterization, etc. It is a short book, 159 pages, easy to read in a couple of days.

I had time before our meeting to read Laurain’s other book called The President’s Hat. One of the testimonials on the back cover by Le Figaro¬† stated, “An enjoyable trip into the heart of the 1980’s.”

One sentence describes what the book is about: “Could a felt hat have the power to change lives?”The President's Hat

Another charming story this time introducing several characters who obtain the hat in a variety of ways.

I’ve been to Paris three times and Laurain’s succinct descriptions take me back to the city. I’m there with his characters, recognizing the streets and sights.

I highly recommend his novels.
