Shakespeare Love Quotes Are On a Mug

Shakespear head shot One of the members of my afternoon writing class gave me a mug for my birthday with Shakespeare’s quotes on it. The love mug was produced for The Unemployed Philosophers Guild, 2014 copyright. Here are some quotes on the left of the cup:

“My heart is ever at your service.”

“Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind; and therefore is winged cupid painted blind.”

“Love is a smoke raised with the fume of sighs.”

“Powerful love, that in some respects makes a beast a man, in some other, a man a beast.”

“The course of true love never did run smooth.”

“But love is blind, and lover’s cannot see the pretty follies that themselves commit.”

“When you depart from me, sorrow abides, and happiness takes his leave.”

“Doubt stars are fire;

Doubt that the sun doth move;

Doubt truth to be a liar;

But never doubt that I love.”

“I do love nothing in the world so well as you. Is not that strange?”

“Self-love, my liege, is not so vile a sin as self-neglecting.”

Remember Valentine’s Day is next month. The above Shakespeare quotes are from half of the mug. The other half I will post in a few days on my other blog site: http://www.jkleist-corwin.com

Which quote would you choose?

  1. I’m still laughing about the Unemployed Philosopher’s Guild. The quotes are wonderful, too. Looking forward to the rest, K

  2. I think the last – self-love, my liege, is not so vile a sin as self-neglecting. If I were to expect someone else to take care of all my needs, I would be called selfish (and rightly so). Anyone or anything that demands one empty oneself completely in the name of love should be treated with caution.
