Hot Off the Press

Greetings,

I haven’t posted in a year or more. I’ve gone through a divorce, two major house moves, published My Dreams Come True Journal and I have A Writer’s Guide for the Next Level in the editing stage at my publisher.

Visit Amazon to see the full cover of the journal. My designer and I worked hard to get it right. https://amzn.to/3UlvZxk

Also, I’m preparing to launch a podcast. I’ll let you know when it’s live with tips, prompts, and quotes for inspiration and techniques for better writing.

Watch for JK Writing Cafe. With digital magic we will broadcast from various locations around the world while we drink our favorite lattes or teas.

In the meantime, this journal that is on Amazon can show you how to achieve your dreams for your business or your personal goals. The flower borders on each page can be colored as you muse.  Take a look at https://amzn.to/3UlvZxk

I hope you are having a great beginning in 2024.

Tips to Reach Amazon #1 Bestseller Rank

One of the important keys to reach #1 Amazon bestselling status for non-fiction eBooks is picking the right categories for listing your book. The fewer books in a category, the better chance of reaching #1. And, of course, promoting the book’s launch with an offer for free on that day only is important.

  • Promotion involves emails and/or posts several days before the launch (and the day immediately before) to all your social media links and everyone you know if you don’t have a client list yet. Announce that the eBook will be free for only one day, the launch day. Those people who order it get a free book while helping you to reach #1. It’s a win-win.
  • Be sure to research categories on Amazon Kindle to determine what categories other authors used for books similar to your topic. Pick at least 2 or 3 to categorize your book. On the day of the launch, keep checking your book’s ranking all day and take a screen shot when it shows #1 so you have proof.

Captivate Audiences to Create Loyal Fans reached #1 at 6:30 a.m. in one category and continued to be #1 for three days. In the second category, it became #1 later in the afternoon and stayed at that level for two days.

Fiction books are in broader categories, making higher ranking more difficult. My advice to you is to write a non-fiction book so you can become a #1 Amazon bestseller, which will add expertise to your branding and interest in your fiction.

I prefer to write fiction, but I enjoy being a #1 Amazon bestseller. To continue visibility, I will write more non-fiction books as well as publishing the two novels I’m polishing: Hada’s Fog and Norman in the Painting. I just need more hours in the day.

Thanks to Stacey Gustafson and Tamara Monosoff for their advice and encouragement to be a #1 Amazon Bestseller.

If you have questions, write them in the comments. I usually answer in a day or two.

Meetings With Writers Linda Todd and Peter Dudley And Trading Books

Linda Todd

Trading books created Friday Fun today.  I met Linda Todd, my patient editor, writer, and dear friend at Panera’s in Alamo where we discussed writing, editing, critique groups, traveling, and recuperating among other topics. She turned over one of the proof copies of Captivate Audiences to Create Loyal Fans, which she used for our final edit.

I transported the copy to a Starbucks in Concord where I met with Peter J. Dudley, my long time writer friend. He loaned me a proof copy of his newest book to be published in June called Lifelike. I hoarded several of his book marks to hand out to members of my writing group. And, I loaned him the proof copy of Captivate Audiences to Create Loyal Fans.

We plan to write reviews for each other after our books are published. When Peter and I were in a seven member critique group that met in Alamo many years ago, he knew he and I would publish in the future. Tenacity and the love of the written word led his prediction to come true for the two of us. He is more prolific than I am. Lifelike is his fifth novel. Captivate is my second book.  In the photo, I’m holding Peter’s first novel, Semper. He wrote two more novels for this New Eden trilogy, Forsada (2013)  and Freda (2014). The same year, 2014, Peter published The Big Lie, a YA book.

Today we talked about Amazon algorithms, how to promote our books, and caught up on what has been happening in our lives between books.

Peter told me the inspiration for Lifelike was two photos that faced each other across a walkway at the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco. As he stood between them, he felt some energy and their story developed. I’m ready to curl up and start reading.

Author Chat: Jenna Barwin – via 5 PHOTOS on Mundus Media Ink

Michelle Rene Goodhew of Mundus Media Ink

Michelle Rene Goodhew at Mundus Media Ink posted an author chat with Jenna Barwin. Click here.

I liked how the five photos emphasized the chat responses, for instance, the prompt:   “Something that represents something unique about you.”

Barwin’s answer, “I shoot underwater photography. Recently, I considered whether there was a link between the sea creatures I photograph, and my fiction writing.”

She explains, “. . . this lionfish elegantly floats through the water, and is quite lovely to watch, but its spines contain a nasty neurotoxin.” She writes about vampires. Here is her recent book.

When asked who is her favorite villian not from her own work, Barwin answered, “Dr. Horrible from Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Joss Whedon did a fantastic job directing this short video story, which exemplifies a saying we writers often hear: the villain is the hero of his or her own story.”

I appreciated being reminded about the villain being the hero of his or her own story. As writers we owe the villain that consideration.

I also want to recommend Michelle Rene Goodhew’s artistic talents.  She designed the cover of my  new book, Captivate Audiences to Create Loyal Fans and my Facebook banners, promo teasers, etc. FYI, the book hasn’t launched yet but will in a few days.

New Book for Presenters to be Published and Tri-Valley Writers Conference Happening in April

Michelle Rene Goodhew designed this cover for my soon-to-be-published book,  Captivate Audiences to Create Loyal Fans.

Linda Todd, my good friend, is editing the contents and I spent most of today looking for photos to add.

I hope to have the book in hand when I attend The Tri-Valley Writers Conference on April 22nd. If you want more information on the conference, click here. The keynote speaker will be New York Times and international bestselling author, Anne Perry.  She has written over eighty-five novels which have sold over 28 million copies.  The Times, associated with Mystery Page Turners, selected her as one of the 20th Century’s “100 Masters of Crime.”  In 2015 she was awarded the Premio de Honor Aragón Negro. Anne won an Edgar award in 2000 with her short story “Heroes.”

I hope you had a happy Sunday.
