Dance Humor To Cheer This Serious Election Day

vote-booths

I turned in my absentee ballot last week but I haven’t listened to any media to see who is winning the presidential election yet. It’s 3:30 p.m. and I don’t want to hear any more verbal slugging.  I’ll know tomorrow who won.

This morning I had a Zoom consultation with my mentor, Lisa Bloom, who lives in Israel. She said the people there have been  interested in this U.S. election and wonder who will win. I’m embarrassed that the last months have been filled with disrespect, accusations, and statements that are contrary to our democracy.  Our ‘dirty laundry’ was out for the whole world to see and hear.

If you want some humor to  squelch the election noise, click here.

One could say in some ways the dance is symbolic of politics.

Bing Crosby Sings White Christmas for the First Time In December 1941

White Christmas treesIrving Berlin, the Russian Jewish songwriter, wrote “White Christmas”and  in 1941 Bing Crosby sang it on his weekly NBC radio program, The Kraft Music Hall.  A year later, Crosby’s  recording of the song became a #1 hit.

“White Christmas” was listed as the world’s best-selling single in the first-ever Guinness Book of Records (published in 1955) and—remarkably—still retains the title more than 50 years later.

William Joseph Pianist with Story Prompt

My fave, Lindsey Stirling, played her violin with William Joseph for another music video and suggested subscribing to Joseph. I did and discovered this particular one called “Jar of Hearts” with, what I thought, was a good story prompt in it. If you are using this weekend to do writing and your muse is hiding–click the arrow and notice the road scenes.  Joseph’s music may inspire you too.

PROMPT:

Who left the girl on the road, who is she, where did she go?

Happy Writing and Happy Labor Day.

Ziggy Marley Fly Rasta Concert

Ziggy Marley

The Ziggy Marley Fly Rasta Concert last night at Sonoma Mountain Village in Rohnert Park was awesome. We had an hour and a half drive home on a week night so we tried to leave mid-way through the concert. But our friend, Debbie Wiggins, took us by the hand and led us back into the swaying crowd, encouraged us to stay to the end, and we were swept up into Ziggy’s energy again. We couldn’t go.

On the way home, I tried to think of ways to express an experience like that in writing. Selecting the right words in a short story or novel could bring the reader right there. I think I’ll have my protagonist go to a music event and see what I can do to have the reader experience it with her.

Thanks to Debbie and Morty who brought us to Ziggy live.

Distracted by Lindsey Stirling

Lindsey Stirling shadows

I intended to work on my writing projects when I settled down at the computer this evening after visiting a dear friend who is 94 years old. Somehow, I ended up on YouTube for two hours watching Lindsey Stirling videos.  What is amazing about her is she dances while playing the violin. She not only is a good musician, I enjoy her songs and the settings where she plays.

Radioactive – Lindsey Stirling and Pentatonix (Imagine Dragons Cover)

My son played the violin from the age of five and would have admired Stirling as much as I do. Have you seen her on TV or on You Tube?
