Ransom Stephen’s Novel The Sensory Deception

Ransom Stephens, author of  The God Patent, wrote a guest post for Jane Friedman’s blog on August 6, 2013. He talks about the publishing journeys of his first novel and his newest, The Sensory Deception. The title of his post is “How to Increase Your Odds at Getting Lucky”.

One of my writer friends, Haihong Liao, and I talk about the law of averages that eventually will be on our side in getting our work published. In his blog post, Ransom said, “Every query you send increases your odds. Every story you publish, every book, every literary event you attend, every time you bear your neck, your cross section gets bigger, and the odds of opportunity finding you increase.”

He doesn’t agree with people who claim that making a living as a novelist is like winning the lottery. Ransom says, “Every time you play the lottery, the odds are the same.  In this game, every time you play, your odds get better.”

The God Patent is one of my favorite top ten novels and I look forward to reading The Sensory Deception.
