What Are Your Writing Goals For the New Year?

In less than 2 weeks, the new year begins. Are you finishing up a writing project and looking forward to starting a new one?

Or will you continue with the one you are working on now?

This last quarter of 2020, I’ve been creating two writing courses on Zoom. They run for 5 weeks and are called “5 Keys to Create Your Captivating Writing.”

I’m pleased with everyone’s progress as they are ready for the next 5 keys course that starts January 8th and 9th.

The basis for Course 1 was a three scene sequence, beginning, middle, and end, with keys to practice in their writing. They ended up with an edited 1000 word essay or story that they can submit for publication.

If you are interested in joining us, let me know.

Have a fabulous 2021,

Julaina Kleist-Corwin

A free bonus on November 6th includes a Q & A by a guest speaker about formatting, publishing, and Amazon.

Let me know  in the comments to this post if you can join us.

5 Keys to Create Your Captivating Story

Did you know that the writing pattern called “Walking the Dog” can derail your story and lose your audience?

Join us Friday, September 18th at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time for a FREE Zoom meeting to preview the up-coming 5 week course, “5 Keys to Create Your Captivating Story.”

And yes, you will find out why a common writing pattern called “Walking the Dog,” can result in your audience walking out on you.

Plus, we will have a drawing for a mystery prize at the end of the preview

Here is a sneak peek of the up-coming course:

Over 5 consecutive weeks, the “5 Keys to Create Your Captivating Story” will include:

  • Explanation of a weekly key
  • Examples from published writings
  • Opportunities to practice the key
  • Sharing with the group for supportive feedback if you choose

At the end of the 5 weeks, you will know:

  • How to create scenes with dialogue
  • How to add bookends in your beginning and ending
  • How to be consistent in your tenses
  • How to show emotions for deeper connections
  • How to put it all together

Replays and access to me via email will be available.

Register for Friday’s FREE preview of the class at this email, Julainak@sbcglobal.net  with “writing class” in the subject line so I can send you the Zoom link.

Tell me what project you are working on where you want to use captivating techniques. If you don’t have a project yet, indicate if you are interested in writing or speaking your story.

See you Friday when we also will have a drawing for a mystery prize.

What Do Confidence, Comedy, Conversations, Change, & Care have in Common?

The five words, confidence, comedy, conversations, change, and care are topics of the five stories in Rising Stars, A Kindle Sampler now on Amazon for 99 cents. https://amzn.to/32LRBXt

Moira Shepard’s “The First Key to Confidence: Master Your Mind” is the first story. After being bedridden for seven years due to a back injury, Shepard  got back on her feet and now she helps women boost their confidence. She says, “Wherever you want to go, confidence will get you there.”

She is the author of Love Your Way to Success ~ Five Keys to Confidence for Creative Women Entrepreneurs.  https://amzn.to/2ERyQtq

Since I met Roberta Gold, whenever I hear the word comedy, I think of herGold’s story in Rising Stars is called “It Only Takes a Smile.” She is a certified humor professional with 30 years of experience. She tells how she never leaves home without a smile even on days when she doesn’t feel like smiling. You can find out how by reading her story. In meetings with her, she also demonstrates how to build up to a hearty laugh by starting to pretend to laugh. By watching her, laughter is contagious and we all end up laughing.

Her book, The Family that Laughs Together ~ A Quick Guide to Sanity When You Feel Like Screaming is on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3lv4DB4

Tammy Atchley’s story in Rising Stars is called “Conversations That Matter.” She is a parenting coach and her mission is to help end bullying.  She is a survivor of bullying and has two children who were bullied. She helps parents recognize the signs that their child might be experiencing harassment and how to start the conversation about it,  what questions to ask  their children, and how to help them. She states, ” Knowing what is going on in their lives and letting our kids know that we care and love them is vitally important.”

Find out more here https://tammyatchley.com/  Her book Silent Suffering:
A Parents’ Guide to Helping Their Bullied Child will be available before the end of 2020.

Cory Stickley is the author of The F.I.X. Code: The Found Secret to Fixing My Life: Accepting the Past, Embracing the Future & Living for Now. https://amzn.to/3hLZcvf   Her story in Rising Stars is “When the Hurt is Gone, You Change.”

She says that feelings like hurt, fear, and guilt influence our lives. “Unconscious habits run our behavior too often, but change is possible–if you want to change. It is easier than you think.” Stickley introduces the F.I.X. Code as a new way to deal with unwanted feelings. She gives an example of a mother and her young daughter whose patterns of behavior needed the F.I.X Code to help them have a happier family life.

My story, “The C Word” is about my mom. It’s the first chapter in my book,  My Mother’s Cancer ~ What Worked and What Didn’t.  I took care of her during her encounter with cancer. I also journaled about how her cancer acted, how we reacted, and the tough decisions we had to make.

I feel a bond with daughters who have been placed in a situation like mine—where we’ve had to make difficult choices in trying to keep our mothers alive and well. I write about our experience to detail what is involved from diagnosis to hospice.

If your loved one has passed away from this disease, my story can offer comfort. If you are still making these tough decisions, know you are not alone. What we did and didn’t do might help you along your way. My book, My Mother’s Cancer ~ What Worked and What Didn’t will be published before the end of 2020.
